*** Original Arrival – Departure Declaration Card: VERY IMPORTANT!!!

All foreigners and Vietnamese entering into Vietnam with a personal effects shipment will specially have to ask Customs for an Arrival – Departure Declaration Card at the airports in Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi & Da Nang.
On page 3 of this form, you will see the sentence: “Do you have any unaccompanied baggage?” Please state “YES, 1 SEA and/or AIR SHIPMENT ” as applicable.

When going through Vietnam customs
Please check that the customs officer writes in the right hand box on page 4 “Certification by Customs”.
If the customs officer forgets to write in the box please indicate to the customs officer you have unaccompanied baggage. The customs officer will write a Vietnamese sentence that indicates the type of unaccompanied baggage. E.g. 1xsea freight shipment of household goods by sea to arrive at Vietnamese port/airport.

Best port of arrival
There are many river & sea ports in and around Ho Chi Minh City. Please check with us before sending shipment to get the best port for customs clearance and delivery.

Tan Son Nhat airport in Ho Chi Minh City (airport code: SGN)
*Density factor : 6.50 lbs / cuft or 1 cbm = 230 lbs

CUSTOMS CLEARANCE

Customs can physically inspect content of the shipment (excepts for Diplomats), sometimes inspection is 100% on each carton for detailed declaration for impot tax. Our crew will attend the inspection to protect the goods and repack the cartons after finishing inspection.

– For air-shipments               : 1 – 2 days for clearance

– For sea-shipments              : 3 – 5 days for clearance (FCL)

                                                 : 5 – 7 days for clearance (LCL)

– For diplomatic removals    : no customs inspection

Note: Client must be in Vietnam during the customs clearance.

CULTURAL INSPECTION

All books , documents, CDs , VCDs, DVDs, CD ROM , CPU , cassettes , video tapes , floppy disks & antiques are subject to be cultural inspected.

Antiques will be listed and issued an Import License from the Cultural Department for re-exportation later. Please advise in details all the antiques of the shipment, if any, such as package number, dimension, dismantled or not, ctc… for showing on the Import License.

Note: The cultural goods should be packed together for later-on Cultural Inspection and be put at the end of the container or in the bottom of the wooden crate.

*For diplomatic removals: no cultural inspection

 IMPORT TAX

Import tax in Vietnam is calculated by customs tax dept. at the port / airport of arrival and based on Tax Tariff issued by Ministry of Finance.

All household goods (HHG) removal shipments are subject to Import tax/duties, except for diplomats / UN / NGOs and for the following items (free of tax):

  1. Alcohol or alcoholic drinks: Alcohol over 22 degree: 1,5 litre; Alcohol under 22 degree: 2 litre; Alcoholic drinks / beer: 3 litre. Exceed these allowance, import tax will be 250%
  2. Cigarette: 400 filters; Cigar: 100 filters
  3. Tea: 5 kg; Coffee: 5 kg
  4. Used personal effects such as: clothes, kitchenware, album, photo, shoes, video tapes, books, etc… (but in reasonable quantity).

For other HHGs and personal effects except for the above, the client will also not pay import tax for the total value of the goods to the maximum amount of US$ 300.00 if the client declares on the Arrival – Departure Declaration Card that he/she has unaccompanied baggages shipped/sent by sea/air later.

– Except for the above, the client will have to pay import tax/duties for the dutiable goods as per tax receipt. The highest dutiable items are as follows:

* Electronic goods (Fridge, washing machine, DVD, TV, stereo, etc): import tax will be 30% – 40% + 10% VAT

* Wooden furniture: import tax will be approx. 30% + VAT 10%

VEHICLES

Vehicles will incur a high duty and it may be better to purchase a vehicle here in Vietnam rather than importing your own.
*Diplomats are exempt of duty on vehicles
